A word of warning, botched lip fillers are on the rise with horrendous side effects.

Considered to be a lip filler expert after injection lips on a daily basis for over 19 years, I warn people every day of the dangers of using unregulated, unqualified or inexperienced practitioners to have lip fillers.

Rogue practitioners are on the rise and are cashing in on this latest trout pout craze thanks to the younger generation following celebrities with over filled duck bill's, which is incorrect placement of the filler.

Unqualified injectors and practitioners lacking experience are worryingly everywhere, offering, sadly the “cheap option” which people unknowingly are opting for. Complications will happen when you use cheap shortcuts and there should NEVER be a shortcut when it comes to your face. Remember no skilled practitioner is “CHEAP” !

Cheap products are often those that are not FDA approved or not from a UK pharmacy. It's crazy to think that any practitioner would risk injecting your lips with filler that is not approved by the FDA, but it happens. Black market products that are being used are illegal and coupled with an unqualified or inexperience practitioner, horrifying side effects are the result.

As a consequence we are getting an alarming amount of people coming to our clinic for my help with botched lips looking unsymmetrical, lumpy, over filled and we are seeing a shocking amount of severe infections, haematoma's, abscesses, blood clots in the lips, ulceration, lip cysts and in some extreme cases - necrosis where the tissue in the lip starts to die. All these complications are due to unknown products, incorrect injection techniques and attempts to create over volumised lips.

You also need to be aware that over plumping will “stretch” the skin and keeping lips overaggressively plumped leaves the skin irreparably loose, saggy and deformed.

If you have had your lips filled by a practitioner elsewhere, take a look in the mirror. If you see the top lip facing downwards due to thickness and lumps of the tissue on the “moustache area”, if your smile does not show your teeth, your mouth does not move properly when you talk, your lips stick out from the side view or your lips are not even, then I can bet, you have had a bad job.

As a final note- I am a big fan of lip augmentations for the purpose of aesthetic appearance. Performed correctly, lip filling can help to correct or change the shape of the mouth and create a more harmonious balance to the face. A skilled practitioner will assess your facial features, sizes and distance ratios to ensure that any enhancement is appropriate for you. This means that no one will ever guess that you have had a lip augmentation but envy you for having perfect beautiful lips.
