Anti ageing treatments for men - should they or shouldn't they?

Anti ageing treatments for men should they or shouldn't they?

Yet again, us ladies have drawn the short straw, as very fortunately for men, they don't age as badly as women do!

I was once told by a man, who believed firmly that his saying was true and he told me - “men age like a damn good bottle of claret and women age like a bottle of milk”!!!!! However dreadful as that sound, do you think he had a point?

In fact according to a survey I read yesterday, men worry more about their pot bellies, man boobs, double chins and balding with wrinkles coming in second and greying hair third. However, if you are one of those men who puts wrinkles and facial ageing at the top of your list, you can slow this process down and address your outward appearance quite easily.

Facial and body ageing is inevitable and getting younger is NEVER going to happen! Growing old gracefully like George Clooney is favoured by many. Coupled with experience and wisdom that also comes with age, I believe getting older should be embraced. But in my experience facial ageing sometimes is unkind and can make us look tried all day, miserable, fed up, gaunt and even angry, especially when a man holds his frown and the muscles in between the eye brows twist and protrude making people look twice.

With this in mind, my approach to male facial ageing is simple, don't worry about the superficial wrinkles but you may want to consider relaxing muscles that are causing a particular look such as angry, and add volume to hollow tissue that is creating the tired or gaunt look. Then you will soften the face, bring a more youthful look and retain your masculine and natural appearance.

There are so many different procedures that men can consider such as skin tightening injections to lift and tighten skin, Botox to relax over eager muscles, filler to add volume to sunken cheeks and chisel a sagging jaw line and skin peels for those who over sweat by exercise and working hard, but an assessment with me first to make a treatment plan is always a good idea.

I am passionate to treat all my patients with the NATURAL look in mind, but as for male treatments, it is vital that treatments does not feminise the face. The most popular treatment for mature male facial ageing is without doubt dermal filler. I am not a fan of too much Botox for men, as over done Botox can look feminine. Having said that, 50% of my male patients do have Botox, but I can assure you, I do keep a close eye to avoid veering in the unnatural direction. And of course, the rugged look should always be retained.

I talk to women every day and the subject of men having aesthetic treatments is frequently discussed. The general consensus between women is that the rugged and masculine look is more attractive. Injecting men with this goal in mind should bring highly pleasing results to both men and the their partners. Softening while retaining the masculine look is my motto and with a range of products and technologies, our male patients are always onto a winner at North Wales Aesthetics Clinic.
